If you've been paying attention to car styling trends or the trends being followed by specialist coachbuilders like Van Thull Development and QWest, you'd think that shooting brakes are the trend of the now (apart from SUVs, obviously). There have been some very cool shooting brake concepts based off of Chevrolet Corvettes. The Ferrari GTC4 Lusso and its predecessor the FF are universally hailed as being great and surprisingly practical cars. Mercedes have been making shooting brake versions of the CLA and CLS for a while now. Even Porsche got in on the act recently with the Panamera Sport Turismo.

Porsche, as you may have guessed, is something very pertinent to this article because the aforementioned Van Thull Development have decided to do something very crazy with an old 986 generation Porsche Boxster. In whatever fit of madness that may have possessed them, they've decided to turn a mid-engined covertible into a shooting brake and stick a 997 911 front end on it for good measure! It also has 911 style rear windows and 991 911 rear lights. This frankenstein's monster of a creation has been in the works for several months now, but it's only very recently that the outer skin of the car has been finally put together. The powertrain of the donor car is a mystery, but that's probably not important right now considering the visual spectacle of this machine.

Why would you do this? Well, considering the Boxster is mid-engined and that wouldn't leave much room for rear seats or even a lot of cargo space, it's probably a "we can do this just because we can" type of build. A technical demonstration, if you will. Whilst this might look ridiculous, maybe a Porsche owner will be inspired by this surprisingly not hideous creation to have a shooting break conversion done on a classic front-engined Porsche. Something like a 924, 944 or 928? In this automotive climate of ever-increasing customisation, you can never say never!
