Sometimes when we get cars on for custom work, they end up needed more than the owner thinks....
Nate Churchel posted in Misfit Autowerks4y ago1.2K Award- ...Take this BMW E46 328CI for example. The owner came to us for some custom exhaust work. While it was up, we noticed that the subframe bushings were shot, and that lead to the mounts beginning to rip out of the unibody.- However this was the worst we have ever seen! After removing the subframe, the mount basically fell out of the unibody! We knew then that we'd be in for a long week.- We tackled the fix in 3 stages.1.Put the mount back in tge unibody and reform the sheetmetal around it.2.Get the position correct, stitch weld everything back together and grind it all flush.3.Make reinforcing plates that cover the area and weld in.- We also made templates for the 4 mounts so that we can cut more plates and make them available for purchase!- Here all 4 plates are welded in. Holding them in to weld is simple. you just use a short bolt with the same thread as the mounting bolts.- Abd here they are welded in and painted uo!Sometimes when we get cars on for custom work, they end up needed more than the owner thinks....
