Garage making knock-off supercars shut down – but the replicas were not the biggest crime...

The Spanish National Police Corps has closed the doors of a workshop producing replica supercars, according to a report in daily newspaper La Voz de Galicia.

It appears that the garage was advertising seemingly legitimate Ferraris and Lamborghinis online – but at temptingly (and one would assume suspiciously) low prices. Customers, enticed by the bargain supercars, were transferring funds blindly then merrily awaiting delivery.

However, unbeknownst to them, what would actually arrive was a cheap knock-off. Watch the video below, from RT, to see some of the garage's replicas in various stages of completion.

Besides defrauding customers, the actions were judged to violate the respective brand's industrial property rights – leading to a search that finally led investigators to the workshop.

Following the raid, the police uncovered 14 cars in various states of preparation, as well as myriad fibreglass molds, badges and details pieces. The adjacent building was also found to be rigged for growing marijuana. Judging by the amount of bodywork going on, however, the fumes in the workshop alone must have given the workers one hell of a high.

We think there's a bigger crime being overlooked here, though – and that's the death of myriad innocent Toyota MR2s and Pininfarina-styled Peugeot 406 Coupes used as the basis for these replicas...

  • how would it have been to just tell them to stop advertising it as real cars and instead as replicas and to return part of the money to their customers instead of shutting them down....
