Not too long ago it was announced that new cars would be fitted with devices that stopped you speeding, which is so unbelievably stupid its unreal. This got me thinking about speed cameras and black boxes and how dangerous they are.
Next time you go through a speed camera you will have to check your speed to make sure that you’re not going too fast. But when passing through a speed camera area the only thing that you can look at is your speed. You have to constantly look at your speed to make sure that you don’t go over, that means that you can’t focus on the road properly.
All sorts can happen while you’re not looking, someone could run out or the car in front could emergency stop. It is impossible to keep one eye on your speed and the other on the road.
As much as the speed camera may help to slow traffic down and apparently ‘save lives’ it hides a hidden danger. This is where speed cameras on the motorway become life threating. I’m sure everyone who has been on a British motorway has been stuck in average speed cameras, again, looking at the speedo instead of the road.
Black boxes are another offender, although they lower insurance premiums and keep new drivers slow they still have post a large danger. Not only to the driver of the car but also to other road users and pedestrians.
Personally, I think that black boxes shouldn’t be installed on cars and that speed cameras should only be put in places where there is evidence that they make a difference.

Quite agee speed cameras are the worst as they are usually placed by a convenient large tree.
People should be re-tested every ten years especially older people. You have to re-test licenses for using forklift trucks and other dangerous equipment so why not a car its essentially a weapon on wheels.
