Here, I present to you one of Romania's most iconic cars- the Dacia 1300 series! These were a very common site back in the days of the communist dictatorship that the country dissolved in 1989, and can still be seen frequently today! I had never seen a model in orange so had to take a snap when we were driving our 2018 Seat Alhambra (seen in the background of photo two) back from a service station in Vâlcea to our apartment in the vibrant capital of Bucharest. This was in the middle of last summer, when we drove 6 days from our home in London to our home in Bucharest, via France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia. On the evening of day 6 of the trip, whilst driving on a notorious stretch of road deemed 'the black hill,' we put the 6-speed manual gearbox into 4th instead of 2nd whilst going up a steep part of the E81 road. This span the clutch disk, burning the rubber and left us stranded. Fast forward to the day of spotting this 1300, we had taken a taxi to collect our Alhambra and had successfully drove it back to Bucharest! I am thinking of writing a longer series of articles on my travels by car in many areas of Europe in this style so be sure to let me know in the comments what you think! You can view this as a teaser anecdote!

I will say this bit in English (I hope my Romanian is ok by the way; I'm trying to learn it 😂) you know the road as 'E81'. The section goes between Sibiu and Valçea and it's a very dangerous...
