The first of a new body style, the HQ was a sleeker new look for Holden. Gone were the boxy looks of earlier models, and Holden was firmly chasing the Muscle Car market.
With engines ranging from an in-line 6-cylinder 173ci to the mighty 350 Chev V8, there was an HQ for every taste.

Great looking car, even in purple!
I don't recall them coming off the production line in that colour. :)
Here's another bit of useless trivia.. as a teenager, I worked at Holden when the last of these came off the production line. They were the 4-door version of the Monaro, all with 350's. And they were the last because they lost the last crate of those 350's and had to FLY another lot in! Naturally, a couple of weeks after the cars were completed the original engines were located. And crushed! :(
That’s a nice tasty bit of info lol. Nice!! Great write up
Drooling hard. In South Africa these were badged as Chevy Kommando's. I helped my father put a badass 350 in one of these with a massive 305 degree comp cam.
Didn't know that! Your Dad sounds like a very cool person Brian, he's had some great cars!
Unfortunately we put that badass engine into one for someone else. Was a work friend of my brother's
