Spy Shots: Gorgeous new Mazda 3 spotted for the first time
The next Mazda 3 will be revealed in a few weeks at the LA Motor Show but these pictures are the first spy shots of the next Mazda 3, and I think it looks stunning.
Even with the funky camouflage, you can clearly see the design influences carried over from the KAI concept car which was revealed last year. The new 3 enhances the current Kodo design architecture, simplifying and tidying up the current design on the existing 3.
The grille immediately comes draws attention to the front end thanks to it's sheer width, and in contrast, the headlamps are sleek, long and thin. So far, the front of the car stays loyal to the KAI concept.
At the back, the roof slopes into a subtle rear mounted spoiler blends together with a steeply raked rear window giving an almost, coupe like design. The lights at the back are as sleek, long and thin as the front ones. The light assembly consists of twin-circle tail-lights, sunken back into the bodywork and split horizontally by a chrome strip. It reminds me of the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso, and in a good way too.
The interior is similar to the KAI concept too. When compared to the current 3, the dashboard is much less cluttered than the current 3 and allows it to have a more premium appearance. I only have a single picture of the interior but it still shows us a good view of it. The interior seems to be a lot more upmarket to compete with cars such as the Audi A3 and Mercedes A-Class.
The new 3 will feature Mazda's latest Skyactiv-X vehicle architecture, specially developed to house the brand's new compression-ignition petrol engine which, offers the fuel efficiency of a diesel without the need for turbocharging.
The SkyActiv-X engine will deliver 187bhp and 170lb ft of torque, but Mazda will also offer two cheaper and smaller petrol and diesel units carried over from the outgoing model. I'm unsure what the pricing will be like on the new 3 but expect it to cost a little more than the existing model.
What do you think?
I want to know if you're excited for the new Mazda 3. I'm certainly looking forward to it and I do think that Mazda have a solid rival to the Ford Focus and VW Golf. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
