As I am sure we have all heard, Mercedes-Benz has confirmed the production of a hypercar, and I am sure we are all praying that it looks like the AMG Vision GT. Mercedes will not only look at challenging Porsche’s 918, McLaren’s P1 and Ferrari’s LaFerrari but also the Aston Martin/Red Bull developed AM-RB 001.
Whether or not it looks as fantastic as the AMG Vision GT we do know it will contain some of the technology from their F1 team. With the recent success of their F1 team winning the constructor's championship 3 years in a row we can only assume their street legal version will dominate the streets. Mercedes aim to build the most fuel efficient hypercar yet but will not compromise the total weight, power, and handling of the vehicle. Their hypercar will use the same 1.6-liter turbocharged engine capable of 11,000 RPM, have 1000hp, send its power to the rear wheels and will have the astronomical price of approx. £3 million.
This will be the first attempt in bringing F1 technology into a street legal car since Ferrari developed the F50 and claimed it was the closest you could get to an F1 racer without being Michael Schumacher.
The tentative scheduled release of their hyper is set out for late 2018/early 2019 in order to compete with their main rival the AM-RB 001. The AM-RB 001 was announced in July and a total of 99-150 cars will be built and customers will start receiving them in 2018.
As for the look and feel of the Mercedes, all we know is they will be styling it similarly to the P1 and the LaFerrari. Mercedes will follow suit of a road and track car that is not completely suitable for long family vacations but will get you there in a hurry.
