Looking back at Subaru's very glamorous past, some limited edition cars just stand out from others: 22B, S203, S204, P1, RA-R and so on, these are all awesome four-wheel-drive sports cars that features a boxer engine with a turbocharger. Two things' wrong though: they've never made enough of them, and they never made left hand drive limited edition Imprezas.
Subaru have thought about it, the bosses have called in their subordinates and said: 'Let's give in and give the Americans our best'. Because, for the first time in a long time, they're bringing the most hardcore version of their four-door road-going rally car to the land of freedom. They're calling it the S209.
So far, Subaru haven't shown us the full car yet, nor are the specs of the S209 revealed. Because they're keeping their mouths shut till 14 January, when the car will be officially revealed in front of a very exciting crowd in NAIAS in Detroit.
We're expecting big things with the S209, because it's predecessor, the S208, which is also a limited run WRX STi, features a healthy power bump of 28hp and 24lb-ft, up to 324 hp and 319 lb-ft. And by the looks of the camoflaged prototype and the teasers by Subaru, the new S209 will feature the most extreme aero Subaru has ever put on a road car. With canards in front and a giant wing on the back, it's going to go round corners like it's on rails.
