Super GT: Karthikeyan/Makino completes 2019 season at Motegi outside Top 10
The #64 Modul Nakajima Racing Honda NSX-GT pair of Narain Karthikeyan and Tadasuke Makino completed their run in the GT500 class of 2019 Super GT series at Twin Ring Motegi as they finished just outside the Top 10.
The team started the weekend with a ninth place finish in the practice session. They had a solid qualifying where Makino made it into Q2 with a eighth place in Q1. Karthikeyan then qualified seventh for the Sunday's race, where he started as well.
Their race pace didn't work well though with the tyres not working as per expectation. Karthikeyan continued to lose places as they stopped on Lap 18 to switch drivers. Makino was 13th after the stop but couldn't gain the lost ground due to the pace issues.
They stopped again towards the end but it made no difference as they only managed 12th in the end. The duo finished their maiden Super GT season in 12th in the drivers' standings with 23.5 points as Lexus pair of Kenta Yamashita and Kazuya Oshima took the championship.
"I expected the race to be better, but the performance was not so good and I had a tire problem," said Karthikeyan. "It was a lot of fun this season and sometimes the performance was pretty good and the fans and everyone cheered me up. I struggled at first because the race format was quite different from what I was used to, but now it's more fun to drive the car."
