Take your pick: the new 911 GTS

2y ago

Five new 911 variants are joining the Porsche range: enter, the 911 GTS.

The five versions will comprise the 911 Carrera GTS with rear-wheel drive and the 911 Carrera 4 GTS with all-wheel drive, both available as a Coupé or Cabriolet, and finally the 911 Targa 4 GTS with all-wheel drive.

Each one is powered by a newly developed 3.0-litre flat six-cylinder “boxer” engine, with power increased to 450hp (combined fuel consumption in accordance with EU 6: 911 GTS models: 9.7-8.3 l/100 km, CO2 emissions: 220-188 g/km)
– 30hp more than the 911 Carrera S, and 20hp more than the previous GTS with its naturally aspirated engine. Whether you go for a manual seven-speed gearbox or the optional PDK double-clutch transmission is entirely up to you, as they’re both available on all variants.

If you’re having trouble deciding, there are some universal truths. Each one has 550Nm of torque between 2,150 and 5,000rpm; each one sits on the wider all-wheel-drive chassis (that’s 1,852mm across the rear wheel arches); each one has Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and has been lowered by 10mm; each one features the Sport Chrono Package with dynamic engine mounds and a steering wheel-mounted mode switch; and a switchable, modified sports exhaust system.

For 911 spotters, the GTS is identifiable thanks to its new Sport Design front apron, while at the rear there are smoked lens tail lights, silk-gloss black air intake grille, and central black-finished tailpipes. For rear-wheel drive models, there’s a new black trip strip between the rear lights, while all-wheel drive variants get an illuminated strip. GTS logos are also a handy clue.

For those bearing a stopwatch, the 911 Carrera 4 GTS, fitted with the optional PDK gearbox, is quickest to 62mph from a standstill, taking 3.6 seconds, while they all have a potential top speed of beyond 190mph – the Coupé, with manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, will do 193mph.

The order books are already open, with NEDC fuel consumption figures as follows:
911 Carrera GTS: fuel consumption combined 9.4 – 8.3 l/100 km; CO2-emissions 212 – 188 g/km
911 Carrera 4 GTS: fuel consumption combined 9.4 – 8.4 l/100 km; CO2-emissions 214 – 190 g/km
911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet: fuel consumption combined 9.5 – 8.5 l/100 km; CO2-emissions 216 – 192 g/km
911 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet: fuel consumption combined 9.7 – 8.7 l/100 km; CO2-emissions 220 – 196 g/km
911 Targa 4 GTS: fuel consumption combined 9.7 – 8.7 l/100 km; CO2-emissions 220 – 196 g/km
