Taking a blown gearbox in stride

"This photo was taken the day before the gearbox blew to pieces. Joey noticed vibrations while riding in remote northern Canada on our way to Alaska. Fact: the farther away you are from any source of help, the greater is the hope that the problem is minor. We thought that maybe because we were carrying so much food for all the camping ahead of us, the vibrations were being caused by the overloaded tire rubbing against the swingarm. With Joey assisting as the jack, we removed the wheel to discover that the gearbox had gone to meet its Maker. Thanks to Grant and Susan Johnson, we eventually fixed it, but that’s another story!"
