Taste police: The BMW M3 has an appalling bonnet

Forget the grille for a moment. We have another problem.

It has been more than six months since BMW ruined our eyes with the sight of their G80 M3 and M4 twins. BMW has yet to declare the design a badly-timed April fools joke. I am beginning to believe the ghastly grille was intentional.

However, forget the grille for a moment because another aspect of the new M3’s design has recently caused me all sorts of ocular discomfort: the bonnet.

Not content with fitting a couple of XXL beaver tails to the front of the new M3, BMW carved out a cavernous monstrosity down the centre of the bonnet. I’m referring to the valley that starts halfway down the hood and becomes progressively deeper towards the front fascia. It tends to wash out in lighter colours, however, studio lighting helps expose the extent of the damage.

I mean, this thing rivals the Grand Canyon for depth. What were they thinking?

  • It pairs well with the aggressive grille. Would be terrified 11/10.

  • Typically BMW, especially in recent time's!

Brash lairy unnecessary and vulgar! What happened to BMW being all about subtle aggression? (See M5 E28/E39 and M3 E30/E46) sports/super saloon's should be all about being relatively inconspicuous but can roar of you ask it!

BMW 'M' cars have gone from the gracious leader to the football hooligan!

Class and style seem to no longer be a factor with these cars!

I say the same about the Audi RS6, in it's first incarnation the only give away was flared arches and a slightly deeper front splitter! Now it looks like it's been designed by an 18 year old with a £1000 Halfords voucher 🤣

    • i don't agree with the rs6 statement. Yes, it's no longer a q car, but one look at those bulging arches, and I got swooned

  • It is disgusting. I realised a while ago that cars with an ugly front end are actually perfect because you don't have to see whilst you get in. However, then when you drive around everyone tries to get as far away as possible from your chosen car with a hideous front end, for example the M3/4, meaning you have nice empty roads to enjoy. Perfect.
