Tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee to write monthly car reviews for Top Gear

This is a huge step in the world of 'YouTubers'

Top Gear announced yesterday that it will have a new monthly writer who will focus on electric car reviews, but it may not be who you are all expecting.

The person they have chosen is the highly-skilled tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) and he will be supplying them with monthly content in the shape of reviews.

This is a huge step in terms of YouTube and we are very proud of Marques for jumping into the world of motoring journalism as he has already done a few videos on EVs on his YouTube channel MKBHD.

His very first full review will appear in the March edition (coming March 31st) of the esteemed Top Gear magazine and later on its website. However, he did appear in the latest Top Gear review about the Audi RS e-tron GT which you can see below.

What do you think about this move from both parties' perspectives?

  • Never heard of him and have no interest in EV’s. Period.

  • I’m all for YouTubers doing this , but a tech YouTuber has nothing to do with cars. He’s a good a tech reviews and that’s what he does but not cars

  • The only reason I know about him is because he was in 2018 YouTube Rewind, which is already a red flag. Why not get someone like Shinyodd or Jimmy Broadbent, who run car-based channels?

    • Shinyodd reviews would actually be quality and Jimmy would make good reviews too but he has to focus on racing with praga.

    • Shinyodd is like 19 and I doubt he knows how to write a car review and Broadbent is busy with his own stuff right now

  • I’m surprised they signed him up instead of you Ben. 😀

  • I guess Marques’s 13.7 million followers on YouTube is the justification for Top Gear to further dilute itself. Marques’s content is plebeian, great for the uninitiated unwashed masses. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
