Tesla Model S P100D Embarrasses Muscle Cars At Drag Strip...Again

This gutted P100D is back at it at Stret Car Takeover Atlanta

I know we post a lot of videos with Teslas dominating at the drag strip, but you have to admit, it's pretty funny watching a bunch of muscle cars get smoked by a car that doesn't even make any noise.

Muscle car fanatics often are, shall we say, a crowd that likes to preen and primp over their cars. It's the meathead group of car culture (I should know, I'm one of them). Go to any muscle car meet and you'll find a crowd where everything is determined by the size of your ego...I mean engine.

In waltzes an electric car and destroys everyone. As a guy that loves muscle cars more than anything else, even I have to find the humor in this situation. And let's be honest, this guy's Model S is incredible.

It is completely gutted but still weighs in at 4,460 lbs, which is 635 lbs more than my big, heavy Mustang GT (3,825 lbs). The fact that this P100D can launch the way it does with that kind of junk in the trunk only on electric motors is amazing.

The Tesla did eventually lose to a Cadillac CTS-V and a Camaro ZL1, just for your information.

  • However...all the internal combustion engine cars have the ability to upgrade and improve. Electricity and electric motors can only do so much. It's fun to watch the coal powered Tesla run but...it has limitations at the end of the day.

  • Some cars should not be allowed to run: look at the smoke of the last one...

  • Now do the same thing several times and drive home, without waiting hours to charge.

  • i love this! now before I get some hate.... Let me explain. this will be the way of motor sport racing. races will be shorter because of battery capacity. but the torque generated from dc motors is ridiculous. I'm a petrol guy so here me out. battery power will be the next race vehicles unless we have a major breakthrough with hydrogen producing processes. as a petrol guy I push to expand the battery technology (which is a temporary solution) and hopefully they figure out a great onboard hydrogen solution for everyday driving needs. save the petrol for or "real" cars and trucks. we are running out. #jamesmay
