This is the most uncanny drag race imaginable- it's also the perfect analogy for the current state of the automotive industry.

On one side of the strip sits a magnificent piece of 'old-school' engineering, the Ferrari 812 Superfast with its 6.5 litre naturally aspirated V12 with 792 horsepower and RWD only is the perfect homage to the past 100 years of the car.

On the other sits a car that could not be more different if it tried, the Tesla Model X P100D all-electric family SUV- well a family SUV with 588 hp and AWD courtesy of 2 electric motors.

As you can see in the video the Ferrari wins by a tiny margin, that's where the analogy comes in.

You see while the old school internal combustion engines are still the best choice for most situations thanks to their flexibility, in right circumstances electrics are just as good if not better. Yeah, the Tesla lost, and yes you would be stupid to have it over the Ferrari that being said the Tesla is nearly a quarter of the price of the Ferrari it can also car 7 people and has a boot that could fit half the Ferrari...

I'm sorry internal combustion, I love you dearly but your days are truly numbered.

What do you think? Which one would you rather have?

  • So the the suv MY MOM drives to get groceries can almost beat one of Ferrari’s best?! I still call that a win for EVs.

  • I'm glad I was born when I was. Admittedly my father's generation had far more stylish cars, but I'm lucky enough to have driven some fantastic cars over the years. I do feel for my kids generation. These electric cars maybe fantastically fast, but I very much doubt that anyone will look at a Tesla badge and get that feeling of excitement you can with an Italian exotic or an American muscle car or even a fun little hot hatch.

    • Yeah you're panasonic hater. What drivetrain? It has no gears sunshine. 4wd rwd? Things that has been implemented ages ago. You can pay panasonic millions and still end up with...

  • Tbf, who buys a supercar come race car to drag race. Tesla' s are one trick ponies when it comes to performance, yeah awesome quarter mile, but terrible handling and cornering due to their weight and battery overheating means they aren't anywhere near even super saloons like the m3 on the track or road
