French car designer Robert Opron always used to design futuristic looking cars, so he was just the right man to design a successor for the legendary Citroën DS. Apart from the CX, Opron also designed the GS and most notably the beautiful SM for Citroën. Before that he defused the polarizing looks of the Ami 6, turning it into the Ami 8 with a less controversial, but by no means boring looking rear.

After designing these cars, Opron switched to Renault, there he designed cars like the Fuego, the R25 and also the timeless looking Alpine GTA.

Before his retirement, Robert Opron worked for Fiat and as an independent design consultant. He sadly passed away on the 29th March this year, but his spirit will live on in all of his forward-thinking and unique car designs.

  • I was not familiar with Mr Opron’s work, but his designs were innovative, slightly unusual but tasteful.

    • Yes, definitely! The SM and CX are my favorite Citroens and together with the DS the cars that make me love the brand for being so unusual but stylish.
