That's Right: It's A Tractor Going Round The Nordschleife
Again, I swear, I am not kidding you: that is a real farm tractor running the Nurburgring like it owns the place
Look, look, look: if it ever seemed that I lied to you about the Toyota "Prius" setting a pole lap around Suzuka, know that (1) I wasn't and (2) this time, I'm not bamboozling the people reading this blog. Yes, that is a tractor doing a lap of the Nurburgring.
Specifically, a Claas Xerion 5000 Trac VC, which some people may have encountered from the LEGO set of it released back in 2016. With 500hp from its immense 12.8-litre inline six, it's got power to shame most saloons and sports cars, but at 30,000 lbs and questionable weight distribution, it's not something Colin Chapman will run.
But Auto Motor und Sport did it anyway, and with Christian Menzel at the helm, it lapped at a scorching 24 minutes, 50.47 seconds, a time that will make the Porsche 919 EVO quake in its unlimited, unregulated running shoes. At one point, it even reached 36mph! Absurd!
Now, of course, there is a faster tractor: JCB's Fastrac 2 is the record holder for fastest tractor in a straight line, cracking 153mph before needing a parachute to slow down. Do you reckon it can beat the 24 minute lap the otherwise stock Claas set?
