The 1000 Miglia will be hopefully back in June, the official date for the 39th edition of the most beautiful race...in the word have been announced few weeks ago. The start will be on Wednesday 16 from Brescia, as usual, where the convoy will be back to the finishing line Saturday 19, after crossing half Italy.

The list of cars and teams taking part to the race has been published few days ago. In this 2021 edition there will be 357 vehicles driven by equipages from all around the world, from USA to Japan, Italy, Netherlands, India, Mexico, Russia, UK, Germany and so on. The cars that will compete are impressive as usual, the list is the dream of any old cars lover, with Jaguars, Aston Martin, Lancia and Alfa Romeo, Bugatti and BMW, Mercedes Benz, Porsche and Triumph, speaking of the major names on the car panorama. Old gems like Alpine, Cisitalia, Zagato, Delhaye and Lagonda and many others will amaze the lucky spectators.

The modern 1000 Miglia is a historical re-enactment of the original endurance race from the 20's, that now has become a modern regularity race for vintage and old cars. The original Mille Miglia has been raced from 1927 to 1957, when after the tragic events happened at Guidizzolo, where pilot Alfonso De Portago and his co-driver died in a tragic car crash that costed the lives of nine spectators. In 1977 the race has been resurrected and it's open exclusively to vehicles that have been part of the original edition.

The 39th edition of the race will follow, with some variants, the usual route of the past years. For the first time the race will be facing some mountain pass, specifically the Cisa Pass, the Futa pass and the Raticosa pass.

The race will start from Brescia on June 16, running towards Viareggio in Tuscany where the first leg ends. From Viareggio, on June 17, the teams will start the long drive to Rome. On June 18 the convoy will be back on the road towards Bologna, for the second last leg, and then on June 19 the race will end where it started, in Brescia.

Everything is confirmed so far, despite the unclear way Italy is handling the covid situation. Last year due to the emergency ongoing, the race was postponed several times and then took place in Autumn.

Have you ever seen the 1000 Miglia?

  • Well, I would not bet on it, but I hope they will make it!. Right now, most major June events are cancelled (last time I checked ( egzostive.com/european-automotive-events-calendar-2021/ ), Techno Classica, Spa Classic, Retromobile, Interclassic (even the new June date) ) is cancelled.
