I realize that I've been doing a lot of Newey cars in this series. Well, it's not my fault if his car have been remarkably succesful!
1998 was the first season of a whole set of regulation that would pretty much last until 2009, at least regarding how the cars looked like. The tires where now grooved, and the cars narrower than before, in an attempt to improve safety by slowing the cars down.
That season also proved to be a turning point for McLaren. With Newey having joined in the middle of the 1997 season, and Hakkinen at the top of his game, the team dominated the grid in a way it hadn't been able to achieve since the heydays of the Prost-Senna rivalry in the late 1980s.
It scored 9 wins in the 16-race season, despite a few reliability issues, and easily secured both titles in front of a resurgent Ferrari, headed by Michael Schumacher.
I think the MP4/13 also launched the legendary status of the grey-black-red West livery, which lasted until the MP4/20 in 2005. Which is why it was such fun to build it with LEGO bricks in the first place!

I'll be posting instructions to build the McLaren MP4/13 in the next few days, so stay tuned for that!
