And it looks incredible.

There's been a celebration at Zuffenhausen as of late, with the 1,000,000th Porsche 911 rolling off the production line. It's trimmed to reflect the very first 911 made back in 1963, and features a certain person behind the steering wheel.

Cue Dr Wolfgang Porsche.

The paint colour is called Irish Green and it's been given some gorgeous gold badging that compliments the paint nicely just like the original. The inside boasts a rather eye catching seat trim - houndstooth patterning has never been my forte, but who am I to judge? They've even gone as far as to give it a wooden steering wheel. Not thin and spindly like the original, but a proper palm-full, instead.

And of course, in case you were wondering, it's a manual.

This specific 911 is based on a Carrera S, meaning it carries a 420bhp turbocharged 3-litre over the rear wheels and can reach 60mph in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 191mph.

It's come far in 54 years, with the first 911 only reaching 60 in 8.3 seconds and 131mph with a small 128bhp. That's slower than some MX5s in comparison. The numbers are nothing compared to today's standards, but they were considered to be competitive numbers back in the day. And no it didn't have hands free.

The 911 has certainly produced a strong heritage with a total of 30,000 race wins, and Porsche like to show off their level of quality by boasting about how 70% of 911s are still perfectly driveable. Their words of course.

It's a well known fact that there are a few people out there who aren't overly fond of the design of Porsches. Well, when I say design, I mean the way their design progresses... or doesn't.

But it's obviously a winning formula as they're still being made and they're still being sold - as suggested by this recent milestone.

How ever you feel about the 911, you must at least respect the car it is, so in recognition to the German sports car, let's raise a pint of Alt to the ever growing history and future of the Porsche 911.
