Ever since Dodge released the Dedeye version of the Challenger, it was only right that they gave the same powertrain to its baby brother, the Charger.

The Redeye treatment is simple. Dodge has simply taken the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine from the Challenger Redeye and dropped it into the Charger. With this engine, the Charger now produces 797 HP and 958 Nm of torque. This is 10 more horsepower than last year.

Dodge themselves have described the new Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye as being the “world’s most powerful and fastest mass-produced sedan." You may be thinking this is quite a bold claim but when you hear what it can do, it will all make sense.

It has a quoted quarter-mile time of 10.6 seconds at 129 mph (207 km/h) and a top speed of 203 mph (326 km/h). So yes, the 0-60 mph time is pretty impressive too at just over 3 seconds. That means it is quicker to 60 mph than the new BMW M2 CS, not bad at all for an American brute.

However, the new Charger Hellcat Redeye doesn't just get a fancy new engine, but it also gets the option to have 20×11 lightweight Carbon Black wheels and a custom designed performance hood with functional air intakes. But, you can only have all this with the wideody variant.

In order for Dodge to put down all that power from the Challenger engine, they have had to use some Demon hardware to optimise the engine and transmission performance. They have also added a larger supercharger, stronger connecting rods and pistons, high-speed valvetrain, a new fuel injection system, an improved lubrication system, and an upgraded torque converter. All very fancy mumbo jumbo, basically.

Inside, you will get Laguna leather seats that can have some Alcantara if you wish. In addition to this, you will get silver stitching and Light Black Chrome accents, a red speedometer, and loads of Hellcat Redeye logos to remind you of how lucky you are.

You will of course get the usual bits and bobs, but the new Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye comes with adaptive suspension, Launch Assist and Launch Control, Torque Reserve and Line Lock which allows for easy burnouts.

Orders for the 2021 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye will start this autumn, with shipments scheduled to arrive in dealerships in early 2021.

  • It’s cool, but I’d have an M5 or E63 or RS6 anyday

  • It needs an awd option, it's too heavy to take advantage of the power, Dodge has already made awd chargers before so they just need to beef up the existing design, I doubt anyone that can afford this is going to complain about awd being too costly.
