The 2021 Ford Raptor will get 725+ horsepower engine from Mustang GT500
According to a report first revealed on The Drive, the 2021 Ford Raptor will "without a doubt" have a much more powerful engine powering the Raptor.
The Ram 1500 TRX won't be the most powerful truck on the market for long. According to some very credible reports from an anonymous insider at Ford, the 2021 Ford Raptor will very much become a direct competitor with the Ram 1500 TRX.
The current Ford F-150 Raptor makes 450 horsepower from a twin-turbocharged V6, which by no means is weak. This is until you stack it against the Ram 1500 TRX, which makes 702 horsepower. Really, the TRX made the Raptor look like a joke.
That is until Ford decided to up their game. If the reports prove to be true, the 2021 Ford Raptor will adopt the V8 from the Mustang GT500. This is a big deal because of this: the Mustang GT500 makes 760 horsepower. It is expected that the 2021 Raptor's engine figures will be anywhere around 725 horsepower to 750 horsepower. According to the anonymous source, Ford's only goal is to one-up the Ram TRX, and it sure as hell appears that it will, given that those horsepower figures for the 2021 Raptor are more than the Ram TRX's. And keep in mind that the Ram TRX weighs 6,350 pounds, about 600 pounds heavier than the heaviest Ford Raptor. I think it's fair to say that the GT500 V8 won't add 600 pounds, so the 2021 Raptor is likely to be much, much faster.
It's also fair to assume that the upcoming Raptor will get beefier suspension, tires, and a bunch of other upgrades to help one-up the Ram TRX.
And while pricing is still unknown, it's not crazy to expect the 2021 Raptor to be offered above $70,000, while still offering a weaker Raptor model around the $50,000 threshold.
