The 2021 Mustang Mach 1 will be sold globally
If you're looking for a new track weapon from Ford, look no further.
The Ford Mustang is quite the jack of all trades. In base Ecoboost form, it is everything from an autocross demon to a premium upgrade at Hertz. In GT-spec, it is the talk of small town bars across this glorious nation. If you really want to stand out where it counts though, the GT350 and GT350R were the king of Ford's stable, with an absolutely bonkers engine and enough track-focused upgrades to give a Viper ACR nightmares. Sadly, the GT350 and GT350R have run their respective courses and are being sent out to pasture, but there's a new pony on the farm know, and its name is Mach 1, and unlike the Mach 1's before it, everyone gets to enjoy this thoroughbred track weapon.
Yes, Ford's new Mustang Mach 1 will be serving as the track-oriented Mustang in the lineup, and its learned more than a few tricks from its forbearers as well. While the Mach 1 is missing the 5.2-liter Voodoo V8, it still comes with Ford's more than adequate 5.0-liter Coyote V8 which has 480 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. Nice. Combine that with a standard six-speed stick or ten-speed automatic and you've got a bonafide muscle car, but the Mach 1 brings more than just brute force to the table.
The Mach 1 has the oil cooler and the same six-speed as the GT350, and it paired with the short-throw shifter from the normal GT. The Mach 1 also benefits from the same intake manifold as the GT350, as well as the front splitter and the rear-axle cooling system from the GT500. All of that is combined to create a Mustang with plenty of go-fast parts that don't void the factory warranty, also nice.
It's been 17 years since the Mach 1 badge has adorned a Mustang, and if I'm honest, I think Ford hit it out of the park this time. We've got plenty of power, and enough equipment to give the Camaro 1LE, the new Supra, and the upcoming Nissan Z Proto a run for their money. I can't wait to see this thing tear up the track all around the world.
