Even after 50 years on our roads, Land Rover has not backed down with the Range Rover – its flagship luxury SUV. For years it has led its class and the next generation will likely do the same.

Range Rover has teased a very blurry image of the 2022 Range Rover ahead of its official launch next week on Tuesday 26 October and it looks broadly the same as the old one but with smoother lines, a new platform and new engine options.

The new Range Rover will be the first Land Rover product to sit on the brand’s new MLA Flex platform, which has been designed to work with combustion-engined, plug-in hybrid and fully electric powertrains.

In terms of engine options, the new Range Rover is rumoured to use BMW engines including the 4.4-litre turbocharged V8 used in xDrive 50i versions of the X5 and X7 SUVs. Other engine options include BMW's six-cylinder diesel units from the old model with mild-hybrid.

Inside, the new Range Rover will of course be dripping in luxury as it always has – which means it will be able to seat five adults as usual. There will also be a long-wheelbase variant coming to offer that extra legroom.

Full details of the 2022 Range Rover will be available next week, with first deliveries expected around spring 2022 at the earliest, with prices likely to begin from £95,000.
