2018 was a classic year if you like taking the road less travelled

2018 was a big year for off-roaders of all sorts – from electric pickups to rough-and-ready buggies and luxury sports SUVs, we've truly seen it all. Here are the top 7 off-roaders of 2018. Let us know in the comments what we've missed!

7: Rivian R1T

Don't think just because this is an electric pickup it can't shift on the dirt. It can reach 0-60 mph in just three seconds, which is well into supercar territory. With a 400-mile range you can expect it to cost around $61,500. Sadly it shall only go on sale in 2020.

6: Honda Rugged Open Air

I know this was only a concept car revealed at the SEMA motor show this year, but it's still a great thing to look at. With a 3.5-litre V6 that can produce 280 hp it can sure shift over sand dunes and mud.

5: Lamborghini Urus

The Lamborghini Urus might be an SUV, but it's still capable of going off road. Well, a bit. A squad of them earlier this year even took on Iceland and survived! But that isn't the only party trick it has. The Urus has a 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 that can produce 641 hp. 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) just takes a blistering 3.6 seconds, while 0-200 km/h (124 mph) is done in 12.8 seconds.

4: Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk

The latest model seems to play on a new level to the previous versions of the famous SUV. It has tougher tyres, more ground clearance, extra underbody protection and some more recovery tow hooks good for getting your mates out of the mud. The price might be $73,500 but it's not too bad considering there's a 247hp 3.0-litre V6 under the bonnet.

3: Jeep Gladiator Pickup Truck

What could be more cooler than Jeep Gladiator pickup truck? Other than it going to have 3.6 litre V6 that can produce 270 hp. This beast has a lot of awesome upgrades which includes that it can haul 7,650 pounds.

2: Hennessey Goliath 6X6

The Hennessey Goliath 6X6 has a monster 6.2 Litre V8 that can produce 705 terminating horses. The price is quite steep being at $375,000 which is supercar money yes but with this you won't have to worry about potholes or scratching it on the ground.

1: Suzuki Jimny

The Suzuki Jimny maybe the underdog here but it is the cheapest out of the bunch just costing $20,000. With its four-cylinder engine this little bugger can produce 100 hp. With a top speed of 90 mph it isn't too bad for the price.

  • the Jeep - yes, and the Jeep - yes. The rest are either luxury toys or cheap cute toys. Or concepts that don't even exist.

  • Urus for sure. But when it comes to sand its always better to just build your own dune buggy and or sandrail.

  • Jimny for sure. Cheap and a great off-roader. Small built which can get through places where big cars will not budge.
