The Abarth 500

A wise man once called it a "mini Lamborghini"

Abarth is to Fiat what AMG is to Mercedes and what M is for BMW. For years, Abarth has been tuning Fiat cars and producing completely rebranded versions of them. One of Fiat's best selling cars is the little Fiat 500, launched in 1957, as a tiny city car, two years before the revolutionary Mini. The 500 was discontinued in 1975, only to be relaunched in 2007.

The car received mixed reviews, mainly because of the way it looked. People called it a very girly car, because of its bubbly and cute retro design.

Soon enough though, Abarth worked their magic on the Fiat 500 to produce the Abarth 500. And that might be the best hot hatch you can buy today.

To start off with, the car looks mean and aggressive, much better than the normal Fiat 500. It has a new paint scheme, entirely new bumpers with fog lights, a bigger spoiler at the rear end, and tons of scorpion badges. The wheels are new too, with good-looking alloys.

The interior of the Abarth is certainly a weak point for the car. It isn't bad, but does feel very cheap in many areas, though the biggest problem is the lack of space. There is no passenger armrest, there are no cupholders, and the gear stick is located below the LCD display. Things begin to wear out quickly, too.

The seats in the Abarth are comfortable, though there are tons of other cars which are way more relaxing to sit in. The rear seats are pretty much unusable, because they can only fit the smallest of kids with a tight squeeze. The boot of the Abarth is also affected by the car's size, though the capacity is still an impressive 185 liters. The good thing is that the rear seats do fold down, freeing up space for bigger items to fit in the boot.

The engine remains the same as the normal 500, which is a 1.4 liter four cylinder with a turbocharger. In the regular Fiat 500, it produces 109 hp, though in the Abarth, it produces 160 hp!

The Fiat 500 is not a fun car to drive. However, the Abarth is extremely fun! This is mainly because power has been increased, and while it is in no way fast, it still is quick. 0-60 takes just 7 seconds, and the Abarth will go on to an impressive 128 mph. The car feels very eager and zippy around corners and has a wonderful exhaust note.

A wise man once called it a "mini Lamborghini," so you can imagine how quick it is.

And now, the most important thing- the price.

Used Abarth 500s not older than 5 years can be found for under 10k USD, with some examples costing just 6,000 USD! That is a really cheap amount for the tremendous fun you have with this car.

But should you buy one? The Abarth 500 is a tiny, very impractical and cheap feeling car, which is not exactly very fast. In other words, it's the perfect car for a young enthusiast looking for something that's cheap, fast, fun and reliable.

Which is exactly why you should buy one.
