The Absolute Coolest TV & Film Cars - Commenter Edition

Another list of cool tv & film cars...but this time, suggested by you!

2y ago

Our recent article named six of the coolest tv & film cars...but the comments were filled with other suggestions, from Herbie to the General Lee. So, trying to cover as many as possible, here are YOUR picks!

Eleanor - Gone In 60 Seconds

It's almost criminal that we missed this one out! Eleanor was suggested by a whole host of people and we're not surprised - it's the epitomy of cool! Of course Eleanor was the Shelby GT500 featured in Nicholas Cage's Gone In 60 Seconds, and the real star of the film.

General Lee - Dukes of Hazzard

Another car that became the real star of a show...the General Lee was a 1969 Dodge Charger used by the Duke boys, Bo and Luke, in the hit tv show Dukes of Hazzard. Souces claim as many as 325 different Generals were made and used by the show, with a lot of those quickly retired due to structural damage after one of the show's signature huge jumps!

Pontiac Trans Am - Smokey and the Bandit

1977 was a great year for cinema and one of the highlights, at least for petrolheads, was Smokey and the Bandit - a classic starring Burt Reynolds, and of course a beautiful Pontiac Trans Am. Much to the delight of General Motors, sales of the Trans Am nearly doubled after the release of the film!

Ferrari Testarossa - Miami Vice

For the first two series of Miami Vice, a 'Ferrari Daytona' was the car used by the stars, Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas. Those inverted commas are important it was actually a Corvette with a fake bodyshell! Once the show gained some popularity, Ferrari sent a cease and desist notice...but in the end, Enzo Ferrari donated two Testarossa models for the show to use, and the white sportscar was a very cool addition to the series.

VW Beetle - Herbie

Some people might not see the VW Beetle as a cool car...but we had lots of suggestions for a certain one to be included - Herbie! With it's classic paintjob and signature number 53, plus the ability to drive and race itself, Herbie is worthy of a place in this cool car list!

Batmobile - Batman

Batman has access to a number of cool vehicles - the Batwing, Batboat and Batcopter - but of course the most famous is the Batmobile; the vigilante's preferred mode of transport around the streets of Gotham City! There have been all sorts of versions in the comic books and films, and many would favour the 'Tumbler' model from the most recent trilogy of films, but we think the coolest version was the 'Lincoln Futura' Batmobile, as seen in the 1960s tv series!

Ford Gran Torino - Starsky & Hutch

Another car that has become synonymous with the show it appeared in...the 1976 Ford Gran Torino featured in Starsky & Hutch has gone down in automotive legend. Originally the producers had wanted to use a green and white Camaro, but Chevrolet's refusal led the team to repaint a Gran Torino to create a unique look - and fans of the show wouldn't have had it any other way!

Mini - The Italian Job

The Italian Job is a film full of interesting and cool vehicles, not least the Fiat Dino Coupe used by Mafia boss Altabani. However, we agree with commenters on our recent article that wanted the classic Mini to be included - it's one of the coolest small cars ever made!

Jensen Interceptor - 'The Interceptors'

Everyone remembers the classic 70s detective show, The Interceptors. Right? No? Well...if it doesn't ring a bell, it's because it was actually a small feature during Series 17 of Top Gear, starring Jason Clarkson, Roger St Hammond and James Steed! Featuring guns, girls, fake moustaches, karate chops and, most importantly, a Jensen Interceptor - it's the tv show you wish was real!

We didn't include every suggestion in the comments from our last post...frankly, there would have just been too many! So, apologies if we missed out your favourite. Hopefully that's now covered almost every cool car featured in tv & film...though do make sure to let us know if we missed any out again!
