The Honda NSX has already been discontinued in Japan and Australia and it now looks like the hybrid sportscar - sold and marketed in the US under 'Acura' - is on its way out in the United States as well. Mind you, it's going out with a bang.

Acura will unveil a 'swan song' model sporting the iconic Type S nameplate and limited to 350 units worldwide, designed to - and I'm quoting Acura - "join highly collectible NSX variants" such as the 1999 NSX Zanardi (51 units produced), the 1992 JDM NSX-R (483), the original 1997 NSX Type S (209) and the 1997 NSX Type S-Zero (30 units).

The best-performing road-legal NSX ever made will be unveiled at the upcoming Monterey Car Week in California, powered by an upgraded version of the twin-turbo V6 hybrid that powers the 'standard' car. Acura and Honda have been rather cryptic about performance figures but on an up note (if you live in the US), the NSX Type S has clearly been designed with the North American market in mind because a total 300 units (of just 350) have been allocated for the U.S. market.

Performance figures, details, specs and pricing will be available on the day of the reveal, orders begin on August 12 at acura.com/type-s.

  • Hope they drop the front axis drive bits, lighten her up, and dream would be to offer a manual. Will keep dreaming... This NSX was no where near the success of run of the OG from 91-05.
