The Ae86 Trueno is an amazing car (not just because of Initial D).

The Trueno has, what is undeniabley, the chassis of a Corolla. But, don’t let that push you away from the fact that it’s different. The Corolla back then was offered in an FF configuration. They did this mainly for more cabin room. But there was one form of the Corolla, the one that didn’t conform to those standards, the rebel, the Ae86. Both the Trueno and Levin were FR meaning they could go and do skids with ease. Sure they weren’t very powerful but that fifty fifty weight distribution made it so that they can handle predictably and like a gem. The main reason that the Trueno was in Initial D was for that underdog story. People love to see the underdog out perform more powerful beings. In this case it was the Trueno vs a FD RX 7, Lancer Evos, and A R32 Skyline, just to name a few. But the Ae86 isn’t just a anime legend, it’s also an amazing car in real life. If you try to buy one now, the drift tax slaps you in the face. That’s how popular this car is. This shows that people don’t just buy them because of Initial D. They buy them to use them as drift missiles. As a reliable car to drift around hairpins and chicanes. To actually use that perfect weight distribution and tackle every corner that comes in their way.
