THE ALPINE A110 - THE PERFECT SPORTS CAR?
The Alpine A110, A Lightweight sports car.
The Alpine A110 is a lightweight French sports car and in my opinion it's great, but before I tell you why I think that lets take a look at the brands history.
The Alpine brand was founded in 1955 by Jean Rédélé and the first car they made was called the Alpine A106 which was based on the Renault 4CV platform, the next car Alpine produced was the A108, which replaced the A106. And then the iconic A110 which was released in 1961, the A110 became a really successful rally car, it won many rallies, including the 1971 Monte-Carlo Rally and then in 1973 it won the World Rally Championship. In 1973 Renault brought the Alpine brand and continued to sell Alpine models, this was until 1995 when all Alpine badged cars stopped production. In 2017 the Alpine name was brought back with the Alpine A110. In 2021 Renault's F1 team was rebranded to Alpine F1 Team and that's a brief history of the Alpine brand.

So, what is the Alpine A110?
The Alpine A110 is a lightweight sportscar, in fact it's really lightweight it weighs just 1,080kg this is due to it being mostly made out of Aluminium. The A110 is powered by a Turbocharged, 1.8 litre, 4 cylinder mid mounted engine which has 252 BHP, this may not sound like much but because of it being so light it's actually very fast. It does 0-62 in 4.5 seconds and has a limited top speed of 155MPH. It is a rival to the Audi TT and Porsche Cayman. The starting price for an Alpine A110 is £49,255 but if you wanted the higher powered A110S it would come to £58,255.
The Alpine A110 has taken many design cues from the old A110, which has given it a modern design with retro elements. At the front it has four separate lights, which is a design feature from the old A110. On the C Pillar there is a French tricolour which shows how much attention to detail has been put into the design of this car. Overall I think that the design of this car is great, the swooping lines and retro design make it stand out.
The interior is very nice too, the Alpine A110 may be focused on simplicity and lightness but this does not mean that the interior is spartan, in fact it's very well equipped. You get a digital display in front of the driver, and a central infotainment screen. Due to the A110 being only available as an Automatic you get fixed paddles behind the steering wheel. The A110 is a small car, so you may think that it will be cramped to sit in, well that's not the case because the Managing Director of Alpine Michael Van De Sande was 6ft 7inches tall, so the cabin was made to fit him. So in short the interior is a well equipped space which isn't too small.
The Alpine A110 is a great sports car, yes you can only get the car with an Automatic gearbox and it has a hefty price tag but when you look past these things I really think that the Alpine A110 is one of the best sports cars you can buy.
