About "The Art Of Formula 1"

"The Art of Formula 1" is a series that I created in 2017 highlighting the work of Scuderia Ferrari cover artists and their renditions of each F1 Grand Prix. Each article contains the illustrated cover, my interpretation of the artists work, some facts and details about the race, a biography of the artist and some of their additional works. Prior to publication I contact each artist to incorporate a recent photo of them as well as to ensure that their biographical information is up to date. This series is a tribute to those often under-recognized, passionate creatives.

Award - Most number of illustrated covers of 2020 goes to...

1) Matteo Spirito and Patrizio Evangelisti tie for most number of illustrated covers in 2020 with three each!

Australian Grand Prix

The first race of the year, the Australian Grand Prix, gets canceled the Friday morning of that very same grand prix weekend. McLaren gets quarantined after a team member tests positive for COVID-19. Matteo Spirito is the first cover artist of 2020 with his rendition of the Australian Grand Prix.

Award - Rarest cover of the year goes to...

Matteo Spirito wins the RAREST cover of the year for his rendition of the Australian Grand Prix (a race that never happened). Races get canceled all the time, but not THIS close to the race! Try to find this one in the history books, later down the road!

Austrian Grand Prix

The first actual race of the year takes place in Spielberg, Austria. Don't forget folks, there are no kangaroos in Austria. Spielberg, the home of the Red Bull Ring, hosts the first two races of the season as F1 adjusts to the constant changes and regulations of the pandemic. Matteo Spirito also illustrates this cover of the Austrian Grand Prix.

Styrian Grand Prix

It's race two at the Red Bull Ring as F1 introduces (for the first time ever) the Styrian Grand Prix! Marco Mastrazzo, (who has illustrated the most covers in the past four years) designed the cover for this new race.

Marco typically adds something interesting in his covers (creating some legwork and research) like the serpentine alpine road in the background.
