A fellow writer claimed that the Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato is the best car that you can currently buy for $1,000,000 but I don’t think it that this is true, in fact, I don’t even think that the Zagato is a good car. I actually think that it’s totally overrated- here’s why...

In order to show you why the Vanquish Zagato is overrated, I need to show you whether it’s a good car and whether it’s an Aston Martin and I’ll be doing this by seeing whether it fits their main slogan: power, beauty and soul.

Power

The Vanquish Zagato is powered by an enormous 6.0L V12 which gives the car a healthy 580 horsepower- this means that it’ll launch itself from 0-62mph in just 3.5 seconds... despite it weighing close to 1.8 tonnes.

From then on, the Zagato will continue to accelerate to a top speed of around 200mph.

Some of these numbers may seem a tad underwhelming but let us not forget that the Vanquish Zagato was not even built with the purpose of going fast so it is nice to see that it still is rather quick.

Beauty

I like to think of the Vanquish Zagato as some sort of modern interpretation of a ‘60s sports car. It doesn’t have any of the main styling attritbutes that all supercars of today seem to have- instead, it’s attributes are the exact opposite.

Designers are now leaning towards much smaller lights for their cars but Aston Martin actually chose to enlarge their’s. Most car manufacturers are leaning towards putting sharp carbon bits on their cars to make them look like hedgehogs but Aston Martin have stuck with the traditional swooping body shape- from above, the Vanquish Zagato actually reminds me of a teardrop.

So, is it timeless or is just James May with some wheels? Well, to put it simply, I think that it’s a truly timeless piece of kit meaning that no matter how old the car is, it will still maintain both its beauty and sheer WOW-factor.

Soul

Judging soul of a car; it’s tricky. This is because there isn’t actually a set way to tell. For example, when you want to figure out whether a car is beautiful or not, you simply look at it but when you want to figure out whether it has soul, well, it’s a tad more difficult than just looking at the thing.

Soul in a car is not just about the performance and it is not just about the looks- it’s about how it makes you feel.

I’ve never even had the chance to see a Vanquish Zagato in person, let alone drive one but even then, I can tell that this car truly does have soul and I can tell you why in two words: it’s special. It’s special because when you have $1 million, you would normally go out and buy the fastest car you can but the Aston is just a great combination of everything. It looks good, it’s rare and you can actually use it- there is nothing else like it.

But why is it overrated?

You’ve just gone through 422 words telling you why the Vanquish Zagato is great but the title of this article states that the vehicle is simply overrated. So why, why is it overrated?

It’s overrated because Aston Martin messed this one up. They had the perfect car built but then they made the grave mistake of building 4 different variants meaning that the Vanquish Zagato is nowhere near as rare and exclusive as it should be.

Truth be told, there are just 99 Coupés and that is not a lot but there are also 99 Volantes... and 99 Shooting Brakes... and 28 Speedsters.

This means that there are 325 Vanquish Zagatos which makes it easier to enter the Zagato club than it is to enter the Bugatti Veyron club. I know that the Veyron is quite a rare car but one of the reasons that the Vanquish Zagato is so much cash is because it’s supposed to be one of the most exclusive cars that money can buy... but it just isn’t and without it’s exclusivity, it’s just a car that’s pretty to look at and it certainly isn’t worth $1 million.

And even if they only made 20 of each variant, the Vanquish Zagato would still be overrated as there would still be 4 variants of the car. The bad thing about having a car that has three other variants is that it kind of makes your car a bit less special because when people think of the Vanquish Zagato, they think of all 4 cars- they think of the whole package which makes having one seem almost incomplete.

Conclusion

In conlclusion to this absolutely pointless article, I believe that the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish Zagato is a beautiful car and an amazing Aston Martin but it receives more attention than it should.

  • It’s cool, but I still think the early 00’s vanquish looks better, and for a fifth of the price or less
