Audi is currently preparing an all-new SUV that will serve as a top-of-the-line model in the catalogue. This SUV will probably be the big brother of the Q7 and will logically be named Q9, which will then rival the BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS. The German magazine Auto Bild says that the Q9 will arrive at the end of the year.
For a good number of years, rumours have been circulating for a Q9 with a coupe SUV body like the BMW X6. But if Auto Bild is correct in suggesting that the Q9 will compete with the X7 and GLS, then the Audi SUV would adopt a more classic body style with seven seats and a large trunk.
Audi had already registered the Q9 name in 2013. This means that the development of the SUV probably started shortly after 2013 and is currently in its final stages. In 2013, Audi also registered the SQ2 name, which has now been adopted by a production model. All these elements confirm that the future Q9 will arrive soon.
Few details about the Audi Q9 have yet leaked. The vehicle will inevitably be offered in various versions. One example is the very sporty RSQ9 with the 4.0-litre V8 that develops more than 600 hp. Models with hybrid powertrains are not to be excluded, as is the presence of a W12.
