Most racing teams tend to go great lengths to get the desired reults. And as it turns out that's exactly what's happened here.
This might look like any other Audi R8 racing car in Audi Sport livery. Except, it isn't. Made by a company Dialynx Performance, the car has been fitted with a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine. And it's no ordinary four cylinder either. It's a hybrid of two different VW engines. This has been connected to a Garrett turbocharger. Which means the whole setup looks something like this......
Yes, I'll admit, that doesn't look like quite a lot, but then you haven't heard the numbers yet. So this 2.0 litre four cylinder engine produces a whopping 650 HORSEPOWER at 8000 rpm and 420 lb.ft. of torque. That's more than what you get from a modern Audi R8 V10 PLUS. That's not all, because the engine will rev upto 9000 rpm. That's roughly the same as a Porsche 918. This power output, however is achieved only when the engine is fed with 100 RON limited race fuel. And this power is sent to the rear wheels via a rather simple, 6-speed sequential gearbox.
The result? The car, despite having much more power than a standard R8, it tips the scales at just 950kg. That's less than a small hatchback. And despite having a huge wing at the back, the car will hit 185 mph. So, it's all sweet sounding so far, but are there any diadvantages? Unfortunately, yes. It's nowhere near as sweet sounding as the standard car it was based on. Hear it for yourself in the video below. But in my humble opinion, this doesn't change a thing. As this shows that the speed machines will live on, despite the increasing regulations on petrol cars.

Great article.
Thanks John. Glad you liked it.
It's a mighty thing for sure.
Yes even on fast and loud they removed a huge V8 out of a detomaso pantera and put a tuned up ford ecoboost V6 out of a truck in it.
