The Baku Grand Prix will not replace the race in Turkey
Azerbaijani sports authorities have denied this kind of possibility
The Istanbul race had been initially added to the 2021 calendar as a replacement for the canceled Canadian Grand Prix at the end of April. The Asian country, however, has been included by Great Britain in the list of countries with high health risk, forcing those who go there to a period of quarantine as soon as they return to England.
This quarantine would create numerous logistical problems for the British teams to participate in the next Baku Grand Prix, and for this reason it was proposed to reverse the dates of the two races. Unfortunately, the Azerbaijani sports authorities did not accept this solution as they already had previous agreements to host a Euro 2020 match in Baku on the day that the Turkish Grand Prix was scheduled.
The FIA is still evaluating options for the Turkish Grand Prix and potential substitutes, including organizing a double race in one of the existing European rounds. Further updates should be in the coming days.
