Just when you thought that it couldn't get any more ludicrous, BMW bring out a motorbike that can ride itself without the need for a rider. BMW announced this project down at CES, one of the world's biggest technology conventions held in America.
This is called the BMW R 1200 GS and is a very cool piece of tech! This motorbike is able to drive off, accelerate, navigate its way around a track, do figure of eights, and slow down and kick out the stand so it doesn't fall over, very cool stuff but how does it do it?
The R 1200 GS does this through, yes you guessed it, lots of wires... These wires connect to the steering actuator motor, clutch, throttle, gears and the kick-stand. As you can imagine the bike probably isn't light, we don't know how heavy it actually is but the standard R 1200 GS weighs 259 kg which is already fairly heavy if you ask me.
Now, I know nothing about bikes and they don't interest me in the slightest but I do find autonomous technology really cool so therefore think this would be cool to see in the flesh. I can already imagine many of these toppling over on the streets of London! They will cause carnage.
