The Byton M-Byte comes with a 48-inch screen – Yes, you read that right
Byton, a start-up company based in China, was founded in 2017 by a group of former BMW and Nissan executives and this is their first production vehicle. It’s called the M-Byte and it comes with huge screens all over the place.
They have been teasing the M-Byte concept car for a couple of years, taking it around the world to be displayed at various car shows.
But they’ve done things a little differently. Ordinarily, carmakers showcase amazing concept cars with futuristic exteriors and crazy interiors and then they unveil the actual production version, which almost always comes with a conservative interior that looks nothing like the one in the concept car and a “democratized” exterior.
Byton has done it the other way around. The exterior has changed a little bit, and it now looks better than it did in the concept car, meanwhile the interior hasn’t changed at all – including the gigantic screen in the dashboard which is still there.
The M-Byte has just been unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show and it comes with a 48’’ touchscreen which covers the entirety of the dashboard, including the passenger side. There’s another screen in the armrest, and another one on the steering wheel. Ah yes, there are also two more screens, one on each headrest, so that the passengers in the back can enjoy their individual choice of media. You can use it for just about anything and the car comes with 4G connectivity and it is also 5G-ready.
The M-Byte is going to be available with either a 72 kWh or a 95 kWh battery pack. The latter is available with 4WD as well, and comes with a 224-mile range for the base model. The 2WD version makes 200 kW / 272 PS whereas the range-topping 4WD makes around 300 kW.
The M-Byte is going to be available in 2020 for the Chinese market and in 2021 for the European market, with prices starting at around $45,000.
