The last race of the 2021 Indycar Series season will take place on 26 September and there is still no certain candidate for victory. Currently the first position in the standings is contested by the Spanish rider Álex Palou and the Mexican Pato O'Ward, separated by just over 30 points.

Pending the last race, the organizers of the championship have presented the calendar for the 2022 season which will start on February 27 in St. Petersburg. Texas Motor Speedway returns to a one-race weekend after hosting two this year, while the Detroit event at Belle Isle will return to its usual week after Indy, but a single round for the first time since 2012.

National and state laws permitting, IndyCar will return to Toronto in July, followed by the only double on the calendar. With the Long Beach Grand Prix returning to its usual April date, Laguna Seca will become the season finale, as it was in 2019.

  • I'd like to have a couple more ovals (like Richmond and Milwaukee), and maybe Road Atlanta as a replacement for one of the more boring road courses on the calendar. That would be perfect, in my book.
