The Canadian Supercar That You Probably Never Heard Of
In the 1990's Motion Concept Vehicles made a car that showed so much potential but some questionable decisions and the Internet killed it.
Chances are, you've probably never heard about Motion Concept Vehicles (MCV) and the fact that they never got a car into production is probably the reason why. This car has been forgotten and part of the reason why is ironically, the reason you can find out about it today, the internet.
In the 1990's, Bob Waddell founded MCV with intentions of creating Canada's first supercar. Not only that, but it was supposed to run on natural gas and was intended to be a road legal racercar. The first concept was unveiled in 1993 only showing it's tubular space frame chassis and some sketches of what it might look like with the rest of the bodywork. In 1994, the car had a newly designed fiberglass body that fit the space frame chassis like a glove. Since it was supposed to run on biofuel, MCV had a zero emission supercar that looked promising. The fact that it was supposed to run on biofuel the model name given to it was the CH4. Unfortunately MCV started to make some costly pre-production mistakes, and started to lose investors who were more interested in investing money into the new internet.
Apparently the original Fiberglass body was too thick and heavier than expected so MCV created a new body made out of fiberglass and kevlar while this may have made the car better, it was expensive to do so but the project continued anyway after finding funding from a wealthy Canadian Musician. The extra funding didn't help the CH4's fate though as MCV kept making seemingly unnecessary changes. The body was changed yet again from fiberglass and kevlar, to much more expensive Carbon Fiber. Another huge change was made when it came to the engine. Instead of running on the desired methane, MCV switched to a regular gasoline engine that became standard. After these costly changes, the CH4 project was axed after one prototype was built in 1998. Even though the car never made it into production, the prototype is still out there and it's stats are pretty interesting.
It uses a twin supercharged 4.6 liter V8 that pushes 400 horsepower. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5 speed manual transmission. It's also is fairly light weighing around 2,350lbs (1,065kg) allowing the MCV CH4 to sprint from 0 to 60 in just 4.5 seconds.
