The car's wrecks : testimonies of our History.

I visited the ruins from Oradour sur Glane, a small village from the southern France, a few years ago. Seeing the ruins of the houses and the cars' wrecks was one of the hardest thing I have to do in my life. I believe these cars can preserve us to another violent world war. These mechanical witnesses were built and destroyed by the hands of the men. They reflect the madness of the totalitarism. I don't need to remind you Ferdinand Porsche conceived the first car of the people, the Beetle, a popular project developed by Adolf Hitler. The transportation has had a revolutionary role during the World War 2.

​The ships were used to embark and desembark millions of soldiers all over the world. The Supermarine Spitfire, planes equipped with motors from the Rolls-Royce factories, played also an important role to deliver European countries. It's a symbol of the end of the Nazi's world like the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth modified in her majesty troopships (HMT) from 1940 to 1947. The famous "Queens" carried 1,600,000 soldiers from the British dominions to Europe. The trains was sadly used by the Nazi Government to perpetuate human genocides. What's about the cars between the ships, the planes and the trains? The Allies and the Nazi army built tanks and lorries. Louis Renault, one of the french carmakers, helped the SS army to invade Europe. You can write an essay about the role of the motoring during the WW2. The cars's wreck are testimonies from the past. In Oradour sur Glane, a little french village near Limoges, you can see some car's wrecks symbolizing the violence of the last world war. On 10 june 1944, the Nazi Waffen-SS company killed and raped the inhabitants. Men was killed one by one in a barn while the women and children died together burning and screaming in the church. After that massacre, the Nazis burnt the silent village leaving some hidden survivors. From the ruins, some furnitures and cars' wrecks are the only human legacy in a dead and haunted place. Why these cars seem to be so human? We are so impressed by the violence of the attacks noticing the iron skeletons. We can imagine these wrecks with eyes and mouths telling us some people were sacrificed unfairly.

Some cars are preserved like historical pieces inside the deteriorated houses. When you walk on the deserted main road of the village, you observe the wrecks everywhere. These cars represent the last human activities in a french village during the 1940s. I believe the pictures are so powerful to understand the importance of these mechanical witnesses. It's like a museum without roof and windows. Don't forget the wrecks reminding us our History.
