The Chariots of Manhattan

- Easily my favorite photo in this series, these three BMW M3s showed up out of nowhere. I had just left Macy's after being hopelessly lost on the inside, and as I was looking at my phone for directions, they pulled up to a stoplight.
- This Tesla Model X was found roaming the Garment District. I particularly love the way the lit up signs reflect off of the smooth bodywork.
- This Discovery was quite an interesting find in Times Square. Typically a Range Rover is the go-to choice for looking absolutely posh while bustling around Midtown, but that Florida license plate has me asking even more questions...
- In an attempt to get a selfie with Bruce Springsteen, I made the trek to the Walter Kerr Theatre every time I found myself in Times Square, for the past year. I'm glad I did this time, because this Bentley Flying Spur was truly a sight to behold.
- Is there anything more American than a Cadillac in New York City? I suppose if the trunk was filled with Apple Pie, maybe...but this XTS4 V-Sport looked the business as it sat on a side street, waiting to coddle its owner upon their return.
- Take a taxi through Midtown and it'll start to make sense why large SUVs like this Chevrolet Suburban are here. This behemoth's off-roading credentials come in handy when maneuvering around the metal plates and broken up roads of The Big Apple.
- Although the Honda Clarity has been out in the US for nearly two model years, this futuristic Prius fighter immediately caught my attention with its funky rear styling and skirted wheels. This particular one was the plug-in hybrid version.
- One of the only cars to truly make me break into a sprint to get a picture of, was this incredibly well-kept (Rover) Sterling 825 SL. Even more interestingly, the car had a Connecticut plate. I'd never drive something like this through Manhattan.
- Time has not been kind to the Panther Bodies of New York City. All the Crown Victorias are gone, but the Lincoln Town Car limos can still be seen escorting people far more important than me. Though the newer MKT limos tend to move the truly wealthy.
- This black Dodge Charger Scat Pack was found outside one of the Visitor's Centers in Midtown. The way the lighting reflects off the paintwork, and the way it contrasts with the wheels made this particularly interesting to me.
- Having an SUV in the city makes sense, and keeping up with the times is this brand new Mercedes-AMG GLE 43. So new in fact that it still has the temporary plate from New Jersey. I'm still on the fence about the looks of these things though.
- I truly have no idea why this Range Rover County LWB was out there in New York City, but what I do know is that this is the best kept classic Range Rover I've seen in my 22 years of life. It was truly a sight to behold, and now you can see it too.
- All this talk of ground clearance made my back personally ache for the driver of this Subaru WRX. Although the lively exhaust note was great to hear echo off the buildings, this car is truly wasted on the mean streets of Manhattan, but it looks cool.
- I found something particularly interesting about this Jeep Wrangler, specifically that its a Rubicon in Taxi Yellow with a "Salt Life" decal on the back glass. It's like the owner is trying to say, "I live here, but I'm not happy about it."
- Our last chariot is this matte gray Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG. The G-Wagen is the ultimate city car. All of the panache of a celebrity, all of the luxuries of a Mercedes, and the fuel economy to make it look like you've got money to burn. Truly a legend.

New York City is one of the busiest cities in the world. With a plethora of buses, limos, taxis, and other hire cars, it seems like finding a regular car would be impossible, but then you'd be wrong. These are some of the prized chariots of New York City's citizens.

  • I thought that people only ride subways, take the taxis, or bike.
