The Definitive Michael Schumacher Documentary Is Coming To Netflix 15 September
[UPDATE: Trailer is out] The officially-supported look into the life of the 7-time times is coming to Netflix 15 September
There are many good reasons why we haven't heard from Michael Schumacher and his family for a while -- the constant pestering for information can take its toll. Now, however, it seems like a piece of the answer will be shown to the public.
Netflix just announced SCHUMACHER, said to be the first film with the official blessing of his family, will be streaming from 15 September.
Produced by B | 14 Film GmbH and directed by Hanns-Bruno Kammertöns, Vanessa Nöcker and Michael Wech, SCHUMACHER will feature both Michael's immediate family (his wife Corinna, Gina and Mick, and Michael's brother Ralf) and shed light on the life and times of the 7-time World Drivers' Champion. Variety also details the appearances of Jean Todt, Bernie Ecclestone, Sebastian Vettel, Mika Häkkinen, Damon Hill, Flavio Briatore, David Coulthard, Willi Weber, Luca di Montezemolo, and Piero Ferrari.
Sabine Kehm, Michael's manager, describes the film as the “family's gift to their beloved husband and father,” but that's not to say that there weren't any challenges to making this happen, with Nöcker, the director, needing "to find the balance between independent reporting and consideration for the family.”
“Corinna Schumacher herself was our greatest support in this," Nöcker says, “She herself wanted to make an authentic film, to show Michael as he is, with all his ups and downs, without any sugarcoating. She was great and brave enough to let us do what we wanted, and so we respected and kept her boundaries."
Whether or not the final product will be a worthwhile watch is still up in the air, but I reckon it won't take long to see it.
