The demand for the Porsche Taycan is much higher than expected

Is this a sign of future success?

The Porsche Taycan has already registered 30,000 pre-orders since its revelation at the beginning of September. And this figure is only for Europe! This far exceeds Porsche's expectations, as it did not expect such a popularity. The Taycan is the brand's first production electric car and is a direct rival to the Tesla Model S.

This rivalry with Tesla began when Porsche tested its Taycan on the Nürburgring. The German car set a record time of 7 minutes and 42 seconds, making it the fastest production electric sedan on a lap. This will surprise Tesla, which communicates strongly about the power and speed of its cars.

According to Reuters, the 30,000 future customers of the Porsche Taycan paid no less than €2,500. Of these 30,000 people, 10,000 of them insured to buy the car. These customers will still have to be patient since deliveries have just begun. If Porsche rejects any competition with Tesla, the Taycan could well threaten the sales of the Model S.

Indeed, many Tesla owners have shown interest in the Taycan. They even represent the largest proportion of non-Porsche owners. The brand plans to deliver 20,000 units of its electric sedan by 2020. If all reservations lead to the purchase of the car, it would mean that all the Taycan are sold for their first year of production.

  • Good. High demand will lower the price.

  • Pity its EPA range is only 201 miles. Compared to 373 for the Tesla S. That thing is going to suck even more when you consider how few working DC chargers there are.

    • That is true, but this is only the first generation. They may improve on it in the future and with the use of Audi's E Tron they could very well become a contender in the very near future

    • Thing is 200 miles is more than plenty for day to day life, and people who can afford to buy Taycan definitely have better for long road trips. So range isn't that big of a factor for potential Taycan buyers

  • They didn't expect much then! For a mere fraction of the price a Tesla can out perform and go further on a charge, than these halfway house designs. Manufacturers are still sticking to building old styled cars, made of old material technology, with old tech electric technology and wondering why the numbers aren't appearing as expected.

    • 30,000 Preorders isn't much... that's more than than Tesla sold model s in 3 quarters of 2019 together. It's a big number especially for still developing market of EVs. As far tech yes Porsche's tech is not going to be as good on their first try...

  • It should be a nice car, it has wonderful performance and decent technology. It has the potential to become a top seller for Porsche, regardless of the pricing.
