The Duke of Edinburgh designed a car
And it's the car which will take him for his final ever drive.
The late His Royal Highness Duke of Edinburgh was well known for his love of environmentalism long before many had cared about it, he was one of the founders of the World World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). He also founded the Duke of Edinburgh Award, focusing on self improvement, appreciating the environment, and improving the community round about. This passion for the environment is being reflected through his funeral arrangements, he's going to be buried in a cloth coffin, which is far more sustainable than a wooden one, and he's also being transported in (what is believed to be) an electric or hybrid car.
When scheduled programming on BBC One was interrupted on Friday, and the nation heard the sad news of Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh's passing, most people in the nation, in fact, the world were saddened to hear such awful news that he had passed at 99 years old. But he said time and time again that he never wanted a big fuss over his death. Some of his final wishes were that he didn't receive a state funeral, but a ceremonial one, like other servicemen have. He didn't want a big fuss, and is going off in the most fitting way, his funeral will be quiet due to COVID-19 restrictions limiting it to 30 people, and the car which will take him will be quiet as it is electric or a hybrid.

The choice of a green Land Rover Defender is one which reflects the man who is going to be in the back of it. It is electric or a hybrid, and was designed by him, so it's the perfect sendoff for Prince Philip. He made no secrets of his feelings towards the environment, which is evident in his car choice. The nicest thing about this car is that he designed it perfectly for him. From the front, it is a normal Defender, but from the side and rear, it is clear the side and rear that it is more than a Defender, it is boxy, it has been designed for the soul purpose of transporting him to his final destination. He designed the car back in 2005, so he was really well prepared, and still forward looking with his plans on how he wanted to go.
Looking back at the Duke of Edinburgh's life, he's impacted so many, influenced so much, and has also met so many people. In fact, he has met/been seen by in person by around 22% (14 million people) of the UK's population, being beaten by only his widow, Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II, who has met around a third of the population in the UK so far. The Duke of Edinburgh conducted over 22,000 engagements by himself. In the UK, the Duke has also allowed 6.7 million people to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh award since 1956, 3.1 million achieved their award in the UK alone. It is now in place in 144 countries around the world and millions more awards have been presented.

The funeral is on BBC One, Sky News, BBC News, as well as most other major networks, and starts at 3pm on Saturday, 17th April 2021, a week following his death. Even in death, HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, wanted to show his passion for engineering and love of the environment. Since his passing, his widow, Queen Elizabeth II, has completed her first royal duty only four days after.

Excellent article. He was a great man.
He really was. I’ve learned more about him since he’s passed than when he was alive. He lived a great life and did so much.
Very informative article. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Thank you for enjoying it! He was such a great man, I never knew he’d co-founded the WWF until just the other day.
Good article sad that he passed away and sad that they ruined a Land Rover
