THE EVOLVED VERSION OF THE GROUP B METRO 6R4

If Group S became a reality, something close to this Hillclimb Racer would have been MG´s weapon of choice..

If after seeing the presentation photo you feel like this Metro 6R4 is not exactly like the others you watched until now, well, you are correct. This one is an evolved version of the original Group B machine and one that never saw its day on Rally stages..

This very rare unit was originally designed by the late Tony Pond, but ultimately was built by David Appleby Motorsport. Given the contribution of both, the car is often refered as TPR/DAM 4100.

Now, that 4100 also represents another change on ths machine, which is the added displacement on the Naturally Aspirated engine unit, now with 4.1 liters and capable of reaching around 420Hp. Add to that the fact this is a lighter version of the original 6R4, having undergone a bare shell rebuild and seeing many of its panels replaced by lighter ones, and we are looking at a final weight of a bit less than 1000Kg even thought the wheelbase is extended.

In the end this could have been MG´s contender on the stillborn Group S that FIA was creating to replace Group B. But it never happened as we all know. Thankfully two British gentleman,Tim Painter and Andrew Fraser, still run this unique Monster on selected events of the British Hillclimb Championship occasionally.
