The Nurburgring is about to witness a demonic rumble!! Bugatti is back with the Chiron Pur Sport, will they clench the title of King of the ring?


This is not the first time that Bugatti is trying to set a new record at the Nurburgring. The Veyron Super Sport completed the lap in a time of 7 minutes and 40 seconds. Which is not too bad for car that weighs over 1800 Kilos!! We all know Bugatti has been setting records as the fastest car on the planet for a while now. But being fast in a straight line and fast around corners is something only few cars can achieve and now with the Chiron Pur Sport, I think Bugatti is trying to achieve just that.

The Chiron

The Chiron is a mind bending car...literally!! It can hustle to 100 Kmph in 2.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 420 Kmph (260 Mph)!!! which is electronically limited. We also know that the Chiron SS 300+ reached over 300 Mph, which is historical!! But these are facts that probably everyone knows by now. But there is an evil cousin, lurking in the shadows, waiting to repossess the green hell and shatter record books. The Pur Sport is something which Bugatti has been working on ever since the Chiron made it's world debut. Bugatti has mentioned in an interview that they are making this car to give customers " a better feel of the dynamics of the car and extract the full potential at every corner."

To be honest, only the bravest of the brave can fling a 2 tonne car around a corner at 200 Kmph. So it does make sense for Bugatti to fabricate a version of the Chiron that can do these tasks comfortably and can be achieved by anyone who can afford a Chiron. For those of you who think that the Chiron Pur Sport is not going to bring the pleasure of riding through twisty mountain passes... think again this one's going to be MEGA.

The Pur Sport

Coming to what changes Bugatti has made to the already wonderful Chiron. For starters, it's now 50 Kilos lighter. It's got the same engine, same power output but the top speed electronically limited to 350 Kmph. The gear ratio's have now been shortened by 15% to extract each and every buff horse from the W16 at any RPM. For instance, 60 to 120 Kmph in 6th gear can be achieved in 2 seconds!!! That's 2 seconds faster than the "regular" Chiron!!!

Talking about the chassis and suspension settings. The Pur sport now gets an improved chassis for better lateral acceleration, the springs have been stiffened by 65% in the front and 33% in the rear. New bushes and additional carbon stabilizers make the steering even more responsive and provide better grip while cornering at high speeds.

It's now got a bigger stationary wing at the back to provide more down force at high speeds. Thus eliminating the hydraulics for the active aero, ultimately reducing weight. There are vents on the wheel arches to provide more air flow to cool the brakes and bits of carbon fibre at the front to keep the car planted around the corner.

The wheels are now made out of magnesium to even further reduce weight and an innovative wheel design for better air flow. That, combined with the super sticky Michelin Pilot sport cup 2R tires will guarantee that you can fling the car around corners with full confidence.

Now, with the added "Sport plus" drive mode the car can now enter full attack mode and claim the throne of "King of the Ring".

The ultimate hyper car.

With 1500 HP, ability to corner at higher speeds and the sound of 4 turbos whistling, there is no doubt that the Chiron Pur Sport can be the ultimate hyper car that only a few can get their hands on. This can be a game changer for the hyper car industry if the Pur sport smashes the Nurburgring title. Only time will tell. For now, my go to car for driving down mountain passes will be the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and it would be a whole new sense of pleasure for anyone who takes the Chiron Pur Sport down the green paths of hell.

  • Factory Effort removes about 15-20 seconds off the time. The SVJ and GT2RS aren't really the fastest cars on the ring. Theres many that just haven't had a factory effort. Anyway, Bugatti will never break the record unless - they tune the car and cheat. Sounds like a thing Bugatti would do

  • I may be missing something here, but 7.40 isn’t particularly fast for a 1800kg supercar, Audi’s RSQ8, an SUV, weighs in at 2400kg yet has managed a 7.42. If Bugatti wants to rule the heavyweights they’ll have to smash the M5’s time at 7.35 given its just under 2 tonnes.

    • Yes, but none of those cars have 1500 HP and I guess giving Bugatti a chance now is reasonable. They have given everything they have got to make the Pur Sport.

  • Heavy but it’s possible to manage the weight and with the neck snapping acceleration it should be able to do it.

    • Until Bugatti releases official lap times, the king of the ring is the 911 gt2 rs MR.

      Dodge should make a track focused version of the challenger. Then maybe it will be the fallen angel.

  • Lets compare the Chiron to the Senna and you see the problem really quick.

    And the Senna can generate 800kg of Downforce. And has brakes which stop the car in a blink of a eye.

    This improves Laptime and Handling.

    The Chiron is simply to heavy and did not generate enough downforce for the corners.

    • Well, can't argue with you on that. But I really think the Chiron Pur Sport can at least put out a decent time of 7:20. It's step by step improvement now. The Senna on the other hand needs to be put out on the track by the factory to prove it can be...
