I'd never personally been to the Evo Triangle, as the Vectra isnt really the car of choice to use round there, but since i'd fitted the coilovers and got the geometry set up on it properly, it was certainly worth a crack (Literally, as you'll find out later down this post).
The Vectra really stood its ground on the twisties, keeping up with Matt and Grant, but then lost loads of ground on the straights, due to not having the power and being so damn heavy.
After nearly completing the Evo Triangle, chasing Matt in his Integra, we exited a long sweeping left hander where we heard / felt a loud bang underneath the car on the left hand side. Looked in my rear view mirror and saw plooms of white smoke, at this moment, i realised i f*cked up....
Pulled over and inspected the car, and saw absolutely loads of gearbox oil.... but couldn't see where it was coming from. CV's were fine, no shafts had fell out etc, so we hopped back in and pulled the car into a safe spot further down the road. Once we pulled over again, the noise coming from the gearbox was not ideal, so there was no way i was getting it back home. We called for a recovery (It''s not worth doing more damage when i have break down cover!).
Once we got the car home, i jacked it up to inspect underneath and found the problem straight away... A cracked differential casing / inspection plate!
Had a cracking time, though!
I'd love to return to the Evo Triangle... but maybe with a higher ride height!
