THE FAST TRACK TO SUCCESS...
...Does not exist, but there are things YOU can do to help yourself.
Recently there has been rather a large discussion regarding the content creation process and the Ambassador role within promoting content.
I thought that instead of sweeping this under the carpet, maybe instead, we should just talk about this. firstly, although some of might like to believe it; us Ambassadors DO NOT have super powers! We volunteered to be Ambassadors in order to help other content creators, but unfortunately there are simply not enough of us to be able to find and promote every single bit of good quality original content.
A Breif History Lesson
In the beginning there were three men. They decided to create a platform where all of us crazy motorheads could hang out, give content creation a go and generally enjoy ourselves.
It has been a flying success resulting in literally millions of people using DriveTribe on a daily basis! Out of those, imagine how many have tried to create something using the studio or even just posted a picture of a cool car they saw...difficult to comprehend right?
A Harsh Reality
Now look at those figures about and try to image that you are just one of those people. It is for this reason that since the beginning, DriveTribe have been trying to think of ways that they can make sure that no good content is getting lost amongst the never ending stream of articles, videos and pictures.
They started with a very simple homepage. You could post an article and Boom it’s now sitting at the top of everyone’s home screen, but straight away there was a problem with this. Try to imagine a waterfall, now imagine your best article standing in his or her wetsuit jumping into this waterfall. For a split second your content was at the top, but in moments it was falling down the waterfall and before long it’s longer on the homepage. Bad analogy I know but it’s all I had.
Then along came the hashtags! This meant that tribe leaders could finally add some kind of category to their tribes which meant in theory, readers could search for what they fancied and boom there’s your article or tribe and if you were lucky enough; they would join your tribe.
Even with both of these innovations tribes still relied on two things to ensure success of their content. The first was members. If you only had 50 tribe members, the likelihood is that only a handful of these would have seen your content when you posted it. The second was the hope that someone would be kind enough to share or repost your content to other tribes and you could gain the traction that way!
But now, we have the Ambassadors! A small group of individuals that volunteered to help sift through the waterfall of content, pick out the best original posts and promote them to the front page. As I mentioned before, having been an ambassador myself for a number of months now; I can say from first hand experience that YOU GUYS ARE POSTING A LOT!!! There is such an unbelievable amount content being created and posted every single day that it is nearly impossible for us to see and promote everything. But, luckily for you, i have made a small list below of the thing that YOU can do right now to start really plugging your posts.
5 simple things that you as a Content Creator can do:
1. Be Creative
The posts most likely to get promoted and enjoyed by many people are the ones where the creator has taken the time and care to create it. Don't go onto Google and search 'Ferrari', post your favourite pictures that come up, post it to DriveTribe and then expect hundreds of Bumps and loads of interaction.
Of course not everyone has access to the very item they want to post about, so i'm not saying don't use Google, by all means do, but why not write a short article about why it's your favourite Ferrari?
2. Engage with the community
Make friends on DriveTribe! Talk to people, get to know new people. It's amazing how good a friend can make you feel when they leave a nice comment on something you have created.
3. Be Consistent
Even I have problems with this one! Find the time to create content consistently, if you are not consistent people won’t know when you expect your content and this could result in them losing interest in your work, regardless of how good it is.
4. Know your best-suited Ambassador
There are lots of Ambassadors, one for pretty much every different category. To find out who is best suited to the category you're posting about have a look at the article below!
5. Stay Respectful
This one is a big one. Just be nice to people, it cost's nothing. Don't get me wrong here, disagreeing with someone is perfectly fine, DriveTribe has always wanted to spark debate but there is never any need to get personal and try and offend people. Your audience don’t want to see you doing that and it could put them off of reading your content altogether.
If you are having an issue with anyone in particular or if you just feel as though you'd like to have a conversation with someone impartial, don't forget you can always speak with our Community Managers, they are Patricia Pedrosa and Kids in Karts Ben.
If this article has helped at least one person then i'll be happy! Stay active, keep the content coming.
James.
