Every bit of car news I look I see people talking about the Ferrari Roma. It is a Ferrari and it is good looking. So, I decided to dig a bit deeper and see Ferrari's literature about it. The literature gives the usual about engine being a 3.9L V8, the transmission coming from the SF90, power being 612 hp, 0-60 in 3.4 secs and other technical stuff.
From that very simple, sweet and short document, one part really got my attention. It was the statement on how it brings refinement and finesse to the Roma owner and brings the concept of "la dolce vita" (the sweet life/ the good life) up to date.
This part I don't really understand, because when it comes to cars, the defining job of the Ferrari Roma as mentioned above is what Aston Martin and Bentley do. They are specialists in that segment of GT cars and when you do get one of those cars it literally means you are living the sweet or good life.
Now, even though many people are calling this the coupé Portofino, but it really reminds me of an Aston Martin except for the front grille and taillights. Ferrari's to me are racing cars even the road going ones, they are meant to perform brilliantly and look good doing it and thats it.
This car kind of feels like a lazy Ferrari, it 0-60 matches the 458 which came out in 2009, it top speed is lesser than the 458, but it has more power than it, how is it not performing better than it. There are two things about this car that I like - one is a Ferrari - I don't think I have to explain this. The second is this interior - it is good with the centre console defining the zones for driver and passenger. This is when you can say "stay on your side of the car" to your passenger and show the designated zone for them to keep to themselves while you enjoy driving, this is my favourite part of this car.
This is the first time I feel this Ferrari even though beautiful and sporty, it feels like it wants to be Aston Martin or Bentley and because of that it feels unnecessary.
